Michelle who is my best friend lives in Singapore. We knew each other when I was an exchange student to Singapore from Taiwan. By the opportunity, she came to Taiwan in June. We booked a Taipei private tour to Jiufen. Having a private guide and bus are so convenient and the guide always could have a nice English conversation with us, especially to Michelle. She’s not good at speaking Mandarin. Before we arrived at Jiufen, we skipped the sky lanterns and just checked out the shops lining the tracks at Jiufen old street. We wanted to try the peanut ice cream roll, so I was waiting for my order when a familiar voice asked, “Masarap ba?”

To my complete surprise, my other friend Martina, who was our classmates before was standing in front of me with her backpack and everything. She followed us to Jiufen straight from the airport because she’s awesome like that. I wish I had my reaction on video because I’m pretty sure it was a pure shock. I had invited her to come with us for the next few days, but she told me she was out of leaves. Apparently, she and Michelle had been corresponding the entire time trying to figure out where she could catch us. Thankfully, our local guide Leon let her join the bus with us. Eventually, we had a good time without a doubt in Jiufen and we highly recommended those who are planning a trip to Jiufen to book a private tour. The service from the mini-tour is extraordinary.
