Taiwan is a land that rewards curiosity. Every winding mountain road, every bustling market street, and every quiet temple offers its own story. This specially crafted 5-day Rotary 2026 journey invites you to explore Taiwan not just as a visitor, but as a traveler stepping into a living, breathing cultural mosaic. With a blend of natural beauty, historic treasures, and immersive local experiences, the tour creates a shared adventure for Rotarians seeking connection, discovery, and memory-making.

Day 1 – The North Coast and a Taste of Tradition

Your journey begins in Taipei, a city where the modern and the traditional live side by side. From your hotel, you’ll set off for the windswept North Coast, where the crashing surf of Yin Yang Sea paints a striking palette of gold and indigo against the rocks. Not far away lies Jiufen, once a gold-mining town, now a maze of narrow alleyways lined with lantern-lit teahouses. The aroma of taro balls and sweet peanut ice cream drifts through the air, inviting you to linger.

After lunch, the road leads to Shifen Waterfall—Taiwan’s own “Little Niagara,” where cascades of white water tumble into a wide emerald pool. Shifen Old Street, with its nostalgic railway tracks running straight through town, brings another highlight: the chance to release a sky lantern, scrawled with your wishes, into the twilight. As your lantern drifts upward, joining others in the sky, it feels like a collective dream taking flight. Dinner will be a warming Taiwanese hot pot before returning to Taipei for the night.

Day 2 – The Mystique of Sun Moon Lake

Leaving Taipei behind, the coach winds its way to Sun Moon Lake, one of Taiwan’s crown jewels. Surrounded by green mountains, the lake mirrors the sky, a place where legend and tranquility converge. At Ita-Shao village, you’ll encounter the Thao people, one of Taiwan’s indigenous tribes, whose presence by the lake stretches back generations.

A leisurely yacht ride across the shimmering waters carries you past Xuanguang Temple and up to Wenwu Temple, with its majestic stone lions standing guard over the shoreline. The afternoon is a time for unhurried exploration—temples, pagodas, and the gentle hum of cicadas. Dinner introduces you to Taiwanese stir-fried flavors before settling into your lakeside hotel. Day 3 – Puli Winery, Hinoki Village, and Indigenous Spirit

The day begins with a relaxed departure from Sun Moon Lake. Puli, the heart of Taiwan, awaits with its winery and playful pineapple cake workshops. From there, the route carries you to Chiayi, where the scent of Japanese cedar lingers in Hinoki Village. These preserved wooden houses echo the island’s colonial past and offer a glimpse into a slower, bygone Taiwan.

The Zhulu Indigenous Cultural Village is the day’s crescendo—a celebration of Tsou traditions through dance, music, and storytelling. Here, heritage comes alive in every drumbeat and graceful step. The evening concludes with a local dinner, guided by recommendations that ensure authenticity, before returning to rest in Chiayi.

Day 4 – Into the Forested Heart of Alishan

Few names in Taiwan evoke such reverence as Alishan. Rising early, you’ll travel through winding mountain roads to explore Fenqihu, a small railway village famous for its nostalgic bento boxes and fragrant bamboo shoots.

From there, the Alishan National Forest unfurls in a sweep of towering cypress and cedar trees, some centuries old. The Alishan Forest Railway, a narrow-gauge marvel built by the Japanese, carries you deeper into the woods, its wooden carriages creaking with history. Walk the Giant Trees Trail and find yourself dwarfed by living monuments that have witnessed ages pass. Sisters Pond offers serenity, its waters still enough to reflect the sky. With every step, the forest reminds you of nature’s permanence and fragility. The evening returns you to Chiayi, tired but enriched.

Day 5 – Colors, Craft, and Closing Chapters

The final day traces Taiwan’s creative spirit. From Chiayi, you travel north to Taichung and the Rainbow Village, where a former soldier transformed his humble settlement into a riot of color and whimsy. Every wall, every path is a canvas alive with childlike joy.

The National Taichung Theater, designed by architect Toyo Ito, presents a contrast—sleek, flowing lines and a futuristic grace. Lunch we recommend Chun Shui Tang, offers a taste of Taiwan’s famous bubble tea birthplace before continuing to Miaoli’s Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum. Here, artistry carved in camphor wood whispers of the region’s craftsmanship.

The journey closes in Taoyuan at the historic Daxi Old Street, where baroque-style facades frame a street brimming with traditional shops. Dinner celebrates local tofu specialties, a fitting conclusion to a tour that has balanced flavor and discovery at every turn. Finally, the group returns to Taipei, carrying stories, friendships, and memories to last well beyond Rotary 2026.
