
Michelin has announced the list of “Taipei & Taichung 2020 Bib Gourmand Selection”, which highlights total 31 restaurants and 23 street food stalls in Taipei as well as 21 venues in Taichung City. This is the very first time that Taichung has been covered by the Michelin Guide. Full release of Michelin Guide Taipei & Taichung 2020 is scheduled on August 24, 2020. Michelin released the Bib Gourmand selection of this year’s Guide in advance on August 11, 2020. The Bib Gourmand (“Bib” is short for “Bibendum,” also known as “Michelin Man” in English) are not as highly coveted as Michelin stars do, it indicates a restaurant delivering a high quality dining experience at a reasonable price. To be precise, a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand restaurant must offer three-course for $1000 Taiwan dollars or less (drinks are not included).

There are 7 addresses new to this total of 54 list. The first-time entrants include Taj, a North Indian restaurant with chefs have been specially recruited to Taiwan from India. Not only the chefs are exceptional for using spices carefully sourced from their country, but also its exotic decoration and atmosphere.
Serving authentic Tainan dishes by its third-generation owners, Yijiazi is a traditional style restaurant next to the Qingshui temple in Taipei Wanhua district. Tainan specialties such as stewed pork belly, pork blood curd soup with shacha sauce and Madou rice cake.
Sits in Wanhua as well, Chang Hung Noodles in the Huaxi Street Night Market as a street vendor for over 50 years. In the same market, there’s another vendor Yuan Fang Guabao selling Gua Bao, or called, Taiwanese burger for more than 60 years.
The rest of the 3 newly listed venues are actually former Bib Gourmand venues that moved to new locations. They are A Kuo Noodles at Jinxi Street, Chen Tung Pork Ribs Medicinal Herbs Soup at Raohe Night Market, and Wu Wang Tsai Chi (previously named Sung Ching Taiwanese Burrito) at the Nanjichang Night Market.

Located in the central Taiwan, Taichung is Taiwan’s second most populous city. This is the very first time that the restaurants in Taichung selected by Michelin. There are total 21 Bib Gourmand venues listed, and 10 of them are offering local Taiwanese cuisine.
Established in 1978, Chin Chih Yuan always draws in queues for its most famous deep-fried pork ribs rice and chicken legs. It will be quite difficult not to have to wait for your orders. Dong Shan Zhan offers claypot-roasted chicken, a new version of bucket chicken. At the 6,000 chickens are sold monthly in this claypot-roasted chicken original store.

“Fu” means “rich” in mandarin, here are 3 rich restaurants! Fu Din Wang is famous for its exquisite-made gelatinous pork trotter, hock and leg that are braised in a flavorful marinade. It’s called the “beauty food” because of the rich collagen protein and low fat content. It can prevent wrinkles and enhance skin elasticity. Another pork trotter specialist, Fu Juang Yuan, braise their pork with shallot, chilli, rock sugar and soy sauce instead of Chinese herbs. Unlike the others, Fu Gui Ting offers angelicae duck noodle.
