Taiwan has gone consecutive 54 days without local-infected cases of coronavirus (Covid-19). Over the past month, there are only a few imported cases.
Up to today(5th June), there are 443 confirmed cases. 352 of the cases were imported(Taiwanese work and study oversea came back for medical care.), while another 36 cases were from the navy fleet which just returned at the beginning of April. 428 cases have been released from self-quarantine.
It’s widely recognized that Taiwan has taken great control over the coronavirus, so the authorities concerned are about to unfasten the measures of public sanitation on 7th, June.

The relaxation will be applied to the Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) and Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR), and the local Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. In addition, allowing travelers not to wear masks will only be applicable if sufficient social distance can be maintained; similar changes will also apply to post offices.
At the entrance to train stations, passengers will still have their temperature measured and will be asked to wear a mask; while onboard, the sale of food, drinks, and other products will be resumed from 7th, June. Domestic airlines will also be allowed to offer beverages during the flight.
However, people are required to follow the “Epidemic New Life Movement”
1. Social distancing: 1.5 meters indoor; with alternate seat arrangement or partitions between seats.
2. Personal hygiene and protection: Wear a mask (if the social distance can’t be maintained), measure body temperature, provide washing/clean agents for hands at entrances or in the venues.
3. Real name system: Register customers’ names and implement customers’ traffic control and environmental cleaning and disinfection. 4. Fire safety and building public safety: Pass all related inspections.
On the other hand, since 1st, June, Taiwan has modified its rules on sending large numbers of surgical masks overseas. Previously, only Taiwanese nationals were allowed to send a small number of masks to other Taiwanese nationals abroad.
So if you are a foreigner staying in Taiwan, you can send masks back to your hometown.
Also, from 1st, June, the restriction of the free-selling masks has been lifted. People can buy masks at convenience stores, wholesale stores, and drugstores.

Meanwhile, people can still purchase masks with the mask-rationing plan. Foreigners can buy masks with ARC (Alien Resident Certification) or Passports.
3-month Visa Extension
While most of the countries are still under the threat of coronavirus, it may be a risk for some travelers to go back to their hometown. In a normal situation, travelers in Taiwan cannot stay longer than 3 months. But during the epidemic, our Ministry of Foreign Affair gives foreigners an extra 3-month visa extension. (Please noted that this extension is only applied to foreigners who enter Taiwan before 21st, March)
In conclusion, foreign travelers can stay up to 6 months now.

Unblock the border
Taiwan is planning to unblock the border between October and December. “The Taiwan Tourism Bureau will coordinate with the CECC and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on evaluating and stabilizing the epidemic situation. These agencies will work together to achieve recovery and secure growth opportunities for international tourism in Taiwan,” according to Taiwan News.
